The World's Very First Batwing-Style Gas Station Was Right Here In Kansas

Did you even know batwing-style gas stations were something unique? Not only was this the first gas station of this brand, but the first ever batwing-style building they used. It’s stood the test of time, and we’re proud to know it as the historic landmark it is today.
Hiding out in Haysville, Kansas is an old gas station that might not appear too special, until you notice its shape.
Built in 1954 as the first Vickers Petroleum station, the beautiful design choice was developed by John Hickman, who apprenticed under Frank Lloyd Wright.
After a tornado in 1999, the Vickers station was one of the only remaining buildings on the east side of the street still intact. Because of that, the community decided to restore the building to the beautiful state you see now.
