Some days you want oven-fired pizzas and fancy fish tacos. Other days, you want a meal like what your family would cook for you after school or over the weekend. This Kansas farmhouse restaurant is a place where you can enjoy quite a few home-cooked meals at your leisure, with no dishes to clean up afterwards. Have you dined at this comforting restaurant before?
Welcome to Mr K's Farmhouse Restaurant, a comforting spot in Abilene, Kansas serving up plenty of home-style favorites.
Back in the 1940s, a restaurant named Lina's had been operating in this location, bringing in customers from far and wide to taste her amazing meals. She even entertained President Eisenhower, giving him a friendly birthday paddling, as per Lena's tradition. In 1974, she closed for retirement, and in 1994, she sold the restaurant to local restaurateurs who brought back this farmhouse on the hill as the restaurant you see today.
The main draw of this beautiful restaurant on the hill is their home cooked meals that could have come out of any family kitchen. There's something special about these dishes that gives them that little extra kick of flavor. If you ask us, we think it's love.
In addition to country style foods, you'll find plenty of sides and appetizers to try as well, like handmade onion rings, cheese fries, and plenty of other fried foods.
The menu covers many Kansas favorites, ranging from large salads to fried fish or steak dinners. We love the chicken fried steak and their catfish the most.
Of course, any small town restaurant trip should include dessert, and their generous slices of homemade pie or cheesecake are always a good choice. Whatever they've made, you can be sure it's delicious. Make sure you order it before your meal, and save room for a sweet treat as you eat.
Mr K's is open for lunch and dinner shifts from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday to Saturday, and open for lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sundays.
Address: 407 S Van Buren Street, Abilene, KS 67410
