We collect Kansas restaurants like many people collect bottle caps or stamps. We love to visit, enjoy the food, and talk to other people who love visiting Kansas restaurants of all shapes and sizes. Dutch country cafe is just a little bit Amish and a-lot-of-bit delicious, so whether you’ve got a craving for homemade pie or classic eats, you’ll find it here. They’ve got plenty of both!
Welcome to Dutch Country Cafe, a restaurant in Garnett that's open for breakfast and lunch, but might leave you stuffed until dinner. Along with cooking farm-to-table, they also have the sweet Kansas service we love so much.
Part cafe and part coffee shop, this restaurant uses traditional recipes from generations ago, which many of us might recognize as the special flavors from our childhood. Some things just taste better when they're using old recipes!
Classic items like fried chicken, chicken fried steak, and plenty of sandwiches often make up the lunch menu, with plenty of room for your favorite items as the daily special.
They also make breakfast, ranging from classic eggs and hash browns to rarely-seen fried cornmeal mush. If it's something you grew up with, you shouldn't leave without trying it out. Then again, you can't go wrong with biscuits and gravy or a good cinnamon roll either.
Of course, homemade eats also usually means homemade pie. They can go by the slice or be pre-ordered to take the whole pie home with you. Who wouldn't want a fresh pie at home? After you've eaten, just make sure you have room for whichever dessert you choose.
The restaurant was founded by two Pennsylvania Dutch families who came together to make the from-scratch foods they love. In addition to a little modern cooking technique and twist to things, you'll be in home cooked heaven in no time. Delicious!
Even if you can’t visit this restaurant right this minute, you can easily add it to your Kansas bucket list. We also love to add places to our lists! Do you know of a small restaurant or town you think would be perfect for a day trip? Tell us about it here, with our new nomination feature.
