Opened as a petting zoo in 1978 and later renamed in honor of Deanna Rose (the first Overland Park police officer to ever be killed in the line of duty), the Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead is a colorful 12-acre wonderland for children both young and old! What is there to do at a children’s garden, you wonder? The facility, which runs on a $2 admission fee and the hard work of volunteers, features fragrant gardens, over 200 farm animals, playgrounds, pony rides, an old one-room schoolhouse, and several other surprises at every turn. Whether you choose to stroll amongst the gardens, skip down the old-time main street, or bottle feed a baby goat, you are sure to make a special summertime memory at this Overland Park treasure.
