Kansas has tons of lovely scenes, and we could talk all day every day about our favorites. The list is long, but we’ve picked out some of the state’s best areas to really enjoy out there. These classic Kansas scenes are sure to remind you of just how much you love our beautiful Sunflower state.
1. Quivira National Wildlife Refuge - Stafford
This stunning area is home to a plethora of shorebirds, at least during migration months. Even a drive by can be breathtaking.
2. Cathedral of the Plains - Victoria
A giant church with plenty of pizazz, this large building really shows how beautiful things can be in Kansas. Just wow!
3. Mt. Sunflower - Wallace County
Though we can definitely tell it's not a real mountain, it's almost a rite of passage to visit, sign the book, and enjoy the rest of your road trip. Surrounded by empty Kansas scenery, we can truly enjoy the sky and the winds that come with it.
4. Keeper of the Plains - Wichita
With bonfires that light up nightly and stunning bridges that almost look like sundials, we can't get enough of it here. There's also a hidden troll, so keep an eye out!
5. Fromme-Birney Round Barn - Mullinville
Built in the early 1900s, this barn really looks a lot larger in person. It's not truly round, instead having 16 sides, but it's round enough to us! It was originally built for draft horses but those were replaced with tractors and is now a historic landmark.
6. Our wild weather
Stunning, terrifying, and often beautiful despite any danger, our weather is something else. Tornadoes can be beautiful as long as they're not hurting anyone. Similar to tigers, beautiful and still deadly.
7. Dala Horse Herd - Lindsborg
These gorgeously painted Dala horse statues are pretty large and easy to spot, but can you spot them all?
8. Monument Rocks - Gove County
One of everyone's favorites, Monument Rocks, is of course on the list. We can't help but tell everyone we know about just how cool this area of Kansas is due to its long ago history as a sea.
9. The Flint Hills
Our gorgeous Flint Hills spanning over a good chunk of our eastern half are always stunning. Even in the cooler months, the grasses rustling in the wind are a sound we always enjoy.
10. Grinter Farms - Lawrence
This popular sunflower field is one of the largest in the state, and always brings out the tourists. Though we are tourists ourselves, and we can't get enough of these sunflowers even as native Kansans.
11. Every pasture burn
Burning is an essential process for Kansas prairie, and we sure love watching. Every flame and flicker is beautiful as it renews the ground for more growth and removes the invasive trees that would otherwise take hold here.
12. Teter Rock - Cassoday
This gorgeous rock is slowly chipping away and coming down, but we love it no matter what.
13. Your very own backyard!
Any Kansas scene can be gorgeous, you just have to wait for sunrise or sunset! The sky lights up with color, and no one can resist its beauty.
