Outsiders may give Kansas a hard time for its supposed lack of scenery, but do you know what? That so called “boring” countryside is gorgeous farmland that feeds both you and your family. (Think it’s still boring?) If you would like to get up close and personal with some of these pastures whilst enjoying the comfortable temperatures and changing colors, make plans to visit one (or all) of these 11 charming farms:
1. Ted Grinter's Sunflower Field (Lawrence)
Located in Leavenworth County, Ted Grinter's is eastern Kansas's prime spot for picking big and beautiful sunflowers, offering guests free admission, $1 (pick your own) sunflowers, and a newly opened local goods and bake shop.
2. Gaeddert Farms Corn Maze (Buhler)
When it comes to picking pumpkins, getting lost (in an impressive 5-acre corn maze), and other fun family activities, south central Kansas turns to the iconic Gaeddert Farms!
3. Chautauqua Hills Farm (Chautauqua County)
Blue and blackberry season maybe over (sigh...), but be sure to keep this picturesque, pick-your-own produce farm in mind come next spring.
4. Pa's Pumpkin Patch (Hays)
Unlike Chautauqua Hills, Pa's is now in its prime season, housing a large pumpkin patch, family-fun corn maze, and even a haunted maze for those who are brave enough to visit after hours.
5. BlueJacket Crossing Vineyard & Winery (Eudora)
An 8-acre working vineyard with unique special events AND a tasting room? Now that's my kind of farm!
6. Cider Hill Family Orchard (Kansas City)
Fall isn't just pumpkin season... it is also apple season! Get your fill of this crisp goodness by picking your own orchard apples (or indulging in their homemade apple cider or donuts) at this Kansas City favorite.
7. Britt's Garden Acres (Manhattan)
Pumpkin patch, petting zoo, and fresh produce for sale? Doesn't Britt's sound like the perfect place to take the family on a cool fall day?
8. Browndale Pumpkin Farm (Clay Center)
For some "good old-fashioned fun on the farm," there is only one Browndale. (And with admission costing only $6 per person, it is an extremely affordable afternoon out.)
9. Louisburg Cider Mill (Louisburg)
Fall is just more festive at Louisburg Cider Mill, which features homemade goodies and merchandise, fun seasonal events, and (of course) an ample patch of pumpkins just waiting to be picked.
10. Renyer's Pumpkin Farm (Wetmore)
There's a reason their motto is "home-grown fun and farm fresh adventures." This working farm has different activities for all different ages and interests.
11. Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead (Overland Park)
Open from April 1 - Oct. 31, this farmstead represents an old-fashioned family farm with pony rides, fishing pond, colorful gardens, and so much more.
