It’s officially fall, y’all! That being said, it is time to get out and enjoy the changing colors and temperatures throughout the state. How do we recommend doing this? By taking this fall foliage train ride through the state, of course!
Based in Abilene, the Abilene & Smoky Valley Railroad is home to the recently restored ATSF 4-6-2 "Pacific" #3415 steam locomotive, which was retired by the Santa Fe Railroad sometime in the 1950s.
After sitting vacant for nearly 40 years, the beautiful train was donated by the City of Abilene to the Abilene & Smoky Valley Railroad. Four years, countless volunteers, and two grants later, this unique excursion train was once again ready to roll!
When you ride the regular passenger train -- which runs May through October -- you can expect a relaxing hour and a half long ride complete with incredible views and narration from the knowledgable crew.
