I have gushed time and again about my love of Kansas’s colorful and serene Flint Hills. (Don’t you think they bring even more life and depth to our beautiful state?) Amidst all the glory of the Hills, however, are several deserted locations that, though abandoned, still have a haunting beauty to them. Thanks to Kansas photographer Patrick Emerson, we can get a more in-depth look at these historic, still-standing structures:
10. "Bushong Bank. (The once prosperous small town of Bushong in the Flint Hills now has a population of 8. What was once a bank became a beauty parlor, gas station and restaurants over the decades. Now the little shell of the building forms a monument of sort for the town which ceased to be.)"
12. "Natural Lighting. (The Art Deco high school of Neosho Falls has long been abandoned. Once the site of Presidential visits over a century ago, now only a handful of residents remain. There remains one business - a bar.)
