Can you believe that 2015 ends in a few short hours? Where has the time gone?! This year in the Sunflower State was full of winners (Royals), losers (Daniel Perez), and everyone/thing in between! Let’s take a look back at 11 of the most insane things to happen in Kansas in 2015:
1. The Kansas City Royals take the crown!
The beloved baseball team wins the World Series against the NY Mets 4 games to 1. **Because somebody always comments that the Royals play in KC MO, I must write a disclaimer acknowledging I know this, but that the fan base is primarily KS... Who else do you think cheers for the Cardinals?**
2. Sprint announces a plan to cut $2 billion in operating expenses by early 2016.
The telecommunications company, which is headquartered in Overland Park,
announced plans to lay off thousands, reduce severance pay, and cutback on limousine services during business trips.
3. Wichita residents breathe easy after the conviction of former commune leader Daniel Perez.
Perez was found guilty on 28 counts, including murder, child rape, and other sex crimes. He is currently serving two life sentences.
4. The longest legislation session in Kansas history ends after 113 days.
The lengthy debate over a large tax increase ended on June 12.
5. Rides from the iconic central Kansas Joyland Amusement Park are demolished after being closed for nearly 10 years.
Joyland opened June 12, 1949 and closed in 2006.
6. Longtime Kansas State University football coach Bill Snyder is inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.
The only reason this is insane is because it didn't happen sooner!
7. The Kansas City Chiefs destroy the rival Denver Broncos 29 - 13.

8. USA Today reports that groundwater is disappearing beneath Kansas cornfields.
The
report states that portions of the High Plains Aquifer are running dry, causing problems for the production of wheat and corn in eight different states, including Kansas.
9. Wichita State University announces the possibility of bringing back their football program.
The WSU football program was discontinued in 1986 after financial strains were placed on the University.
10. Earthquake Track reports a whopping 1,004 Kansas earthquakes in 2015 alone.
11. Country superstar Garth Brooks sells out six concerts at Intrust Bank Arena.
A whopping 65,000 tickets sold within the first hour of availability.
