Generations of Iowan apple lovers have come to Wilson’s Orchard and Farm in search of tasty apples. The apple orchard portion of this iconic farm was planted in the 1980s. Now, while apples are still a prominent feature of the farm, there are plenty of other things going on here, as well.
For example, in addition to apples, you can also pick your own strawberries, sweet corn, and pumpkins, just to name a few. But let's be real. As fun and rewarding as it is, picking your own can get a bit hot and tiring.
That's when you need mother nature’s power drink - apple cider. And what better form to have apple cider than as a slushie!
Hard cider and traditional cider are also available at Wilson's Orchard and Farm, along with a variety of other drinks.
One fun fact: the taste of the cider actually changes throughout the apple harvest season (roughly April to mid October) as different varieties ripen.
Wilson’s Orchard and Farm serves fresh apple cider and apple cider slushies until late fall or while fresh cider supplies last. They are so refreshing and so simple! It's not often you can drink a slushie with one main ingredient that has never even traveled as far as Iowa City.
But isn’t this one of the beautiful things about this kind of agriculture? You can get so close to your food. And that isn’t by accident. Wilson's Orchard and Farm values locally grown foods, transparency, and sustainability.
The farm is located a few miles north of Iowa City, set among beautiful rolling hills.
If you don’t make it there for fresh, cold apple cider slushies, never fear. You can still take advantage of their array of hard ciders for sale which preserve the taste of fall all year round.
Make a meal of it in the two story gabled barn and restaurant, Rapid Creek Cidery, which is located in the orchard and offers mouth watering seasonal dishes year-round, including their famous barbecue.
Truly a unique experience, Wilson's Orchard and Farm is worth tramping down a path to go visit. And don’t forget to pick up some fresh made donuts for dessert! You can find Wilson's Orchard and Farm and Rapid Creek Cidery at 4823 Dingleberry Rd NE in
Iowa City. They are open year-round, Wednesday to Sunday (check the website for updated hours).
