The tiny town of Villisca, Iowa, has been haunted by a terrifying ax murder since the early 1900s.

When night fell on June 10, 1912, all was well. By the time dawn broke, nothing would ever be the same.

In the middle of the night, a murderer broke into the Moore home and slaughtered all six family members, and two of their guests.

A neighbor woke to find the house quiet, and when she investigated, she found the gruesome scene.

The tragedy shook this this small town to its core - and the mystery still remains unsolved.

Several suspects were brought in, and one was tried - twice. Still, the townsfolk never did determine who turned their quiet paradise into a brutal piece of Iowa history.

The story is so haunting that several documentaries and movies have been inspired by the story - including a 2016 horror film "The Axe Murders of Villisca".
