Iowa is a relatively peaceful state, and it’s one of the safest places to live in the entire country. That doesn’t mean we are without a gruesome past, though. Back in 1910, one small town was the site of the most horrifying Iowa crime when a vagrant broke into a home and murdered the occupants. The house is now considered one of the most haunted spots in the entire state.
Did you know that you can tour one of Iowa's most infamous true crime scenes?
The small farmhouse was the site of a gruesome killing, back in 1910. On the evening of June 10th, someone broke into the Moore house and murdered the entire family, plus two visiting guests. When the neighbors awoke, they were rattled by a crime that devastated the whole town.
If you're brave enough, you can arrange for an overnight stay. This house is rumored to be haunted, and it's a favorite stop of ghost hunters and paranormal investigators.
Book your stay at the Villisca Axe Murder House website, here. Overnights and tours sell out quickly, as Iowans love testing their bravery by signing up to stay here for the evening. You can even book a stay for next year, if you’re out of time for frights in 2019.
