When was the last time you spent a day outdoors? We’d like to introduce you to Pine Lake State Park if you’ve never been here before. This beautiful trail takes you to some of Iowa’s best scenery, along a path of adventure. As long as you’re sure-footed, this trail is a great day outdoors just waiting for your footsteps. Mark this one down for a day outside and make sure to add it to your travel plans for the future.
Welcome to today's hike, a beautiful day out at Pine Lake South Park's South Trail. Whether you prefer to hike alone or with family, this hike is an adventure for one and all.
The trail comes in at 2.8 miles, and though it isn't very long for an out-and-back trail, it's rated as moderate for the elevation gain and path types.
The trail includes wooden board paths, stairs, bridges, and other hiking challenges that may be a little difficult to traverse in spots, but are interesting and fun for young kids to hop around and climb.
These bridges and steps were built back in the 1930s, and we're glad to have them still. The many types of terrain make it a little more challenging, but we love it all the same.
As always, make sure you never leave behind food scraps or trash during your hike. Dogs are allowed on the trail if leashed, so your four legged friends can hike with you.
