Iowa has so many interesting and historic places to explore. With towns rich in history, hidden architectural gems and a rich supply of fascinating museums, there’s really something to spark everyone’s interest. The Manning Hausbarn Heritage Park is no exception. This place provides a truly unique step back into the world of 1600s Germany.
Manning Hausbarn Heritage Park is located in the small town of Manning, Iowa, and it is a celebration of Manning’s German heritage.
The park is filled with attractions that give visitors a glimpse of what life was like for German farmers in the 1660s, and what it was like on an American Midwestern farm at the turn of the century.
The centerpiece of the park is the German Hausbarn. The Hausbarn was actually built in 1660 in Germany and brought over to Manning and assembled and preserved in 1996.
Another interesting attraction in the park is the Leet/Hassler Farmstead. Built in the 1910s, this farmstead is beautifully preserved to give visitors a taste of life on a Midwestern farm at the turn of the century.
As part of Heritage Park’s focus on its authentic depiction of farm life, you’ll be able to see displays of antique farm equipment and learn about how it was used.
The park is located at 12196 311th St., Manning, IA. Tours are available from May 1st to October 31st. To learn more about the Manning Hausbarn Heritage Park or find out about guided and self-guided tours, click here.
