Iowa is home to plenty of greasy spoons that serve up tasty food, but some truly stand out from the rest! Head to the small town of Fort Madison to try a diner that’s become a local legend for their huge portions and affordable prices.
Fort Madison was the first permanent U.S. military fort on the Upper Mississippi River. It was famous for being the site of Black Hawk's first battle against the US troops on the Upper Mississippi.
Their menu hasn't changed much over nearly twenty years in the same location, and the low prices are a throwback to the retro diners throughout the Midwest.
Though their prices are way low, their portions are enormous. You'll find overloaded omelettes, crispy bacon, and a variety of breakfast sandwiches on the menu.
The Wallyburger is a legendary creation, and if you love burgers, you've got to try it. It's a full pound of beef topped with grilled onions and absolutely smothered with cheese.
