Iowa’s small towns are full of endless discoveries. When it comes to finding something fascinating, all you have to do is look around! The town of Columbus Junction is home to about 2,200 people, but visitors from all over stop by to cross the most interested (and stomach-dropping) swinging bridge in Iowa.

Before you dare to cross the bridge, there are a few things you should know. First off, it's almost certainly haunted.

The ravine below is said to have been where a young indigenous woman threw herself to her death as a result of unrequited love. To this day, visitors have heard wails when it's quiet and calm in the middle of the bridge, and when the original bridge collapsed with two young children in the early 1900s, they miraculously managed to avoid injury. Locals credit their good luck to the protective spirit of the ravine.
Over the years, the bridge has been restored, rebuilt, and reinforced - so, you should be pretty safe walking across, no matter how wobbly it seems.
