When summer is upon us, my thoughts turn to all the beautiful flowers that are in bloom. While spring wildflowers might get the most attention, many flowers stay in bloom well into summer, and lovers of these colorful blooms know that it’s worth coming back to the same spot several times. Many of Iowa’s best wildflower fields can be found among the trails and prairies in the less-populated areas of the state, but you don’t have to wander into the wild to see the blooms. There’s an amazing wildflower garden in Iowa that’s open to the public! Bickelhaupt Arboretum, located at Clinton Community College (in Clinton), offers a unique blend of trees and flower fields over its 14 acres. It’s open dawn to dusk year-round, and best of all – it’s completely free!
