It’s home to one of the best museums in Iowa – and every May 17th, that museum plays host to an incredible Norwegian cultural festival. Welcome to Syttende Mai, a traditional celebration of the day Norway ratified its constitution in 1814. It’s a country-wide event in Norway, and those traditions have made their way over here in a big way. The Vesterheim museum is the center of a town-wide celebration involving dancing, singing, food, and a parade you won’t soon forget.
