With enough vision and passion, a forgotten and neglected space can be made into something wonderful. That’s what SingleSpeed Brewing did in Waterloo, Iowa and the results are spectacular. The brewery transformed an abandoned bread factory into a spot that’s the place to be in downtown Waterloo.

The old brick building was in rough shape when SingleSpeed decided to take the project on. You won’t believe how it transformed the space and what it looks like now. Here are all the details and why you need to make trip to Waterloo to visit SingleSpeed Brewery.

Hostess operated a bread factory in Waterloo for 90 years, but it closed the Waterloo Wonder Bread Building in 2012 when the company went bankrupt. The city purchased the vacant building after the bread machines went idle.

The old structure could have been demolished. It has asbestos and termites and no future as a bread factory. But some thought this industrial space still had a lot of potential.

In 2015, SingleSpeed reached a deal with the city of Waterloo that allowed the brewery to move in. Singlespeed went to work restoring and renovating the old building.
