Whoever said “bigger isn’t always better,” has clearly never been to The Grove Café. The longstanding eatery has garnered quite the reputation over the years, particularly for its pancakes, which are so big, they barely fit on the plate. Perfect for pleasing even the biggest of appetites, a visit to The Grove Café is the perfect way to start the day. Take a look:
Basically an Ames landmark, The Grove Café has been serving up great grub since being founded in 1948.
Throughout the decades, the eatery has garnered a huge reputation for its equally as large pancakes. In fact, according to Food Network, The Grove Café serves the best breakfast in Iowa.
Cooked to perfection on a griddle, the enormous pancakes are at about 1” thick and as fluffy as they come. The end result is a pancake that’s so big it barely fits on the plate.
The café serves up a classic diner fare, which includes everything from traditional breakfast items to tasty lunch plates, like hamburgers and meatloaf.
Aside from the food, it’s the cozy, welcoming atmosphere that patrons rave about. And that’s no coincidence; the café aims to make diners feel right at home – it even says so on the wall.
The Grove Café is open Monday – Friday, from 6 a.m. – 2 p.m., Saturdays, from 6 a.m. – 12 p.m., and Sundays, from 7 a.m. – 12 p.m. For more information, call (515) 232-9784. You can also visit The Grove Café website or Facebook page.
