Right now, most Iowans are absolutely sick of this endless winter! It’s time to get ready to spring, whether Mother Nature agrees or not. If you’re looking for a truly spectacular destination to kick off your spring adventures, you’ve got to plan a trip to Reiman Gardens. If you’ve never heard of it, you’re not alone — this beautiful park is one of Iowa’s best-kept secrets! It’s located on Iowa State University’s campus at 1407 S University Blvd, Ames, IA 50011.
From the road, Reiman Gardens looks like any other park or complex in rural Iowa.
The butterfly house is one must-see spot at this secret garden. You'll learn about plants that attract these playful insects, and be able to see many species up close — there are more than 800 butterflies at any given time.
As you hike the entire garden, you'll find pathways that take you through fields of tulips, wildflowers, azaleas, and even right up to a lily pond! Try to find the antique rose garden for a romantic sight.
During the holiday season, be sure to check out the impressive RG Express! Each of the buildings was made using natural materials, and they're scale replicas of the Iowa State campus!
If you’re a tulip lover, be sure to plan your trip for late April or early May to catch them on exhibit! The beautiful garden is open daily from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Admission is $9 for adults, $8 for seniors ages 65 and up, $4.50 for youth ages 2-12, and free for youth under 2.
