Iowa has so many amazing ice cream shops that it’s nearly impossible to pick a favorite, but The Outside Scoop in Indianola certainly ranks among the best in the state.
The Outside Scoop has been serving up some incredible homemade ice cream since 2010.
Owner Joe Doering started small, initially offering his delicious creamy creations from a small hut, but the reaction from the community was so overwhelmingly positive that he moved into a brick-and-mortar location the following year and business has been booming ever since.
You’ll find a little bit of everything on the menu, from classic favorites like Chocolate Fudge and Cookies & Cream to unique, inventive combinations like Blueberry Lemonade, White Chocolate Raspberry Cheesecake and Goat Cheese with Roasted Cherries.
Doering and his super-scooping crew also make their own mix-ins, like their delightful toffee and brownies, as well as a newcomer to the topping list: maple sausage brittle.
The Outside Scoop isn’t just famous for their ice cream though; they also whip up some out-of-this-world shakes, malts, floats, storms, and specialty sundaes.
Business has been so successful that The Outside Scoop added a special scoop truck to their lineup, which can be seen roaming the streets of central Iowa. If you see a bright pink food truck, stop what you are doing and run straight to it; delicious ice cream awaits inside.
