Did you know that you can spend the night with ghosts in one of Iowa’s most appealing small towns? It has an inn that is undoubtedly one of the most haunted places in Iowa. Read below to find out what the village of Bentonsport is hiding from the rest of the state.
The Villages of Van Buren County are home to many quaint and historic small towns. Bentonsport is one of those charming little locations.
If you're looking for a place to stay when you visit the Villages, you might be drawn to the Mason House Inn. The Inn was built in 1846 as a place for steamboat travelers to rest.
If you haven't figured it out by now, this charming hotel is known for more than just their comfortable rooms. Over the years, the Mason House Inn has been recognized as one of the most haunted places in Iowa. More than 300 spirits have demonstrated their presence here, and it's a frequent spot for paranormal investigations.
Guests have reported all sorts of inexplicable encounters in the rooms and on the grounds of the Inn.
Three of the Inn's former owners have died here, and one guest was murdered years ago. The Inn was used as a hospital during the Civil War, and one doctor got ill and passed away in his own office.
You can stay in an old train car caboose, if you'd rather rest a little farther from the main house.
Call up the Inn and ask about their calendar. Many famous ghost hunters make appearances and host events at this storied Inn, and many times they are open to the public.
