Expedia.com named Decorah the most beautiful town in all of Iowa. Nestled in the northeastern corner of the state among the bluffs and hills that defy rumors about how Iowa is just flat cornfields, this enchanting little Iowa town has a lot to offer in the way of entertainment, natural wonders, local food, and beautiful scenery.
When people first discovered the live feed showing a pair of eagles building a nest, it became so popular that the footage nearly broke the internet. Their nest overlooks the Decorah Fish Hatchery and they raise a new family of eaglets each year. You can watch the Decorah eagles any time (in real time) day or night, at the Raptor Resource website. You’ll also find footage of past eagle action. See the eaglets learn to fly, watch the parents build their nest, and enjoy the picturesque river landscape of the area.
The eagles generally tend their nest of eggs throughout the month of February.
They conserve biodiversity by carefully maintaining a collection of over 20,000 different varieties open-pollinated plants and heirloom varieties of fruits and vegetables. Gardeners love the selection of seeds and plants, and even people who don't have a green thumb visit to appreciate the beautiful bluffs and rolling hills that surround this amazing location.
The first courthouse was built in 1858. It was just two stories. The current courthouse replaced it in the early 1900s and cost a hefty $125,000 to build. Beautiful stone carvings grace the entrances. It's one of the most beautiful courthouses in the state.
This beautiful community is a great place to spend the day.
