Decorah is well loved by Iowans for a host of reasons. It offers great recreational opportunities. There’s a bald eagle cam. There are the various opportunities to honor and experience Norwegian culture.
At Luna Valley Farm, you will find many of these elements that cause people to love Decorah, but you might get to experience them from a bit of a different-than-usual perspective.
Picture this: towering Burr Oaks with lush grass in the shade underneath, sheep and cows grazing in the distance, and all this framed by the flaps of a tent.
This lovely setting is exactly what you’ll find at the Luna Valley Farm Glampground.
The farm's two luxury tents afford not only a great view but also a comfortable king bed to sleep in.
But they book up fast, so plan ahead!
Don’t be too misled by the “luxury tent” part; as nice as it is, and as comfortable the bed, there isn’t climate control and you do have to walk three minutes to the barn to use the restroom and shower.
But maybe that authenticity and closeness with one’s surroundings are what make this stay tucked in among the trees so special.
Parking is separated from the glampground by a short but steep hill; the trek adds to the sense of discovery but might factor into how much luggage you may or may not want to take.
Plus, you’ll get an immersive, authentic experience of an organic farm, with the owners’ transparency and openness in sharing how food is grown and the community it can build.
Guests are invited to walk around and enjoy the workings of the farm, from bees to beef with plenty in between.
Every Friday in season, folks come to Luna Valley Farm from near and far to enjoy the wood fired pizza and good company.
One thing is sure, there are lasting memories to be made in the old shade of the burr oak savanna on this charming Iowa farm.
There are two glamping tents available and the farm is located ten minutes north of Decorah. A word to the wise: keep an eye on the weather and bring a few extra layers if the mornings are looking a bit chilly.
Have you ever tried the luxury tents (or the pizza!) at Luna Valley Farm? It’s never too late to start! Visit the farm’s website for more information. You can also find Luna Valley Farm on Facebook and Airbnb (Tent #1 or Tent #2 ). And while you’re in the area, stop by one of the farm’s recommended local sites, the Malanaphy Springs .
