This Easy Fall Hike In Iowa Is Under 2 Miles And You'll Love Every Step You Take
Iowa’s leaves are just beginning to turn, and within a few weeks, the whole state will light up with the beautiful colors of fall. One of the best places to catch a glimpse of the foliage is in Madrid, at Ledges State Park. This popular state park is home to miles and miles of trails – but many of them are short loops or brief out and backs, making this park accessible to anyone with a sense of adventure.

Both trails are less than 2 miles and either offer a loop, or an out-and-back option. The trails in the area offer plenty of opportunity for improvising - so explore that side trail that looks enticing!

During spring, summer, and early fall, much of this trail is shaded by tree cover. It's a great way to escape the heat, but a lot of otherwise beautiful views are blocked.
