Iowa may have a reputation as a flat, flyover state, but those of us who have spent time exploring each nook and cranny of our home can tell you that is certainly not the case! For some of the most impressive panoramic views in the Midwest, hike to the top of Iowa’s Inspiration Point.
Ledges State Park is one of Iowa's most popular hiking destinations, and with a variety of trails ranging from easy, beginner-friendly strolls to moderately grueling treks, it's easy to see why.
The contrast between the sheer cliffs and bluffs carved by the creek and the bright reds, yellows, and oranges of autumn make Ledges a photographer's paradise.
The trail is well maintained, but just rugged enough to make you feel like you're really exploring a part of Iowa's wilderness. You'll travel 1.2 miles in a scenic loop that shows off some breathtaking views.
You'll be rewarded with sweeping panoramic views of the canyon and beyond. This spot has been inspiring artists and nature lovers for decades, and it's one of the most sought after views in the state.
