The Hawkeye State is full of treasures that locals keep to themselves, and many of them are worth discovering. Assembly Park, in Iowa Falls, may appear to be a standard urban riverfront park at first glance, but if you check it out, you’ll discover a historic wooden suspension bridge hidden here. Visit the historic Iowa Falls Swinging Bridge to discover a wonder tucked away along the Iowa River. Cross this swaying bridge if you dare!
The suspension bridge was originally built in 1897, and over the years it has been rebuilt and updated to remain safe. It's actually been worked on four times since it was built - in 1909, 1925, 1956, and 1989.
While it is a bit creaky, that's just part of the charm. The Iowa Falls Swinging Bridge is one of Iowa's hidden gems, tucked away in the city park, and many consider it a best-kept-secret.
When you cross the bridge, you'll notice a small cabin with a gorgeous garden overlooking the river. You can actually stay the night here - the Swinging Bridge Cottage is on AirBnB!
The views from the bridge and from the Cottage are some of the most relaxing and peaceful views in Iowa. Be sure to add this breathtaking walk to your Hawkeye State bucket list.
