The 10 Best Places To Hide In Iowa In The Event Of A Zombie Apocalypse
Good news Iowans! According to Estately.com, Iowa was ranked #15 for states you’re most likely to survive the zombie apocalypse in, so those are pretty good odds! More good news – the zombie apocalypse (probably) won’t happen. But if you’re still worried about how you will survive, here are 10 of the best places to go in case the undead come knocking at your door:

A prison is just about the safest place you can be in the case of a zombie apocalypse. You're surrounded by a barbed wire fence, locked inside of an extremely secure location, with plenty of food and medicine to hold you over - what more could you need?

A hospital is probably the next safest place to be in this case. Not only are hospitals secure, but you have plenty of medicine and food already stockpiled for you! And if you're lucky, there will still be some doctors there who aren't zombies.

Another good place to be would be the Independence Mental Health Institute. It's safe and secure, but the word is that it's haunted, so if you don't mind trading zombies for ghosts, then this is a great place to hide out!

Go for the old, sturdy stone structures like this one in Stuart. It's easy enough to barricade the front doors and hold out until help arrives. Plus, you have an ample supply of wine and wafers to snack on while you wait for help to arrive.

Why wouldn't you want to be in a highly guarded military base surrounded by trained soldiers? It's really an ideal location...plus there is plenty of firepower to hold off the hoards.

Zombie apocalypse survival rule #1: Stay away from the big cities if you want to survive. Everyone knows that more people = more zombies, so if you can get to the tiniest, most rural town possible, do it.

Doesn't everyone dream of living inside a Costco anyway? Well a zombie apocalypse is a good excuse to follow that dream. With literally all of your heart's desires stockpiled on endless shelves, all you have to do is barricade the doors and live out your days in wholesale heaven.

Any factory would be an ideal place to hide out if you're being chased by a horde of zombies. First off, the buildings are structurally solid, very secure, and huge enough to fit a small community. I would personally choose a factory like the Barilla factory in Ames, where you could just make your own pasta to live off of and possibly trade for supplies with other communities.

The Mahanay Bell Tower would be the perfect place to hide out during the zombie apocalypse. At 14 stories high, you can perch yourself at the top and spot zombies coming on from five different counties. Another huge plus - zombies don't know how to work elevators, so even if they infiltrated the front door, they could never figure out how to get up to the top!

Obviously zombies can't swim, so an island would be an ideal location to wait out the undead apocalypse, right?! Well lucky for us, Iowa has its own island - Sabula. All you have to do is block off the few roads that lead onto the island, and you can enjoy a zombie-free life on that waterfront property you've always dreamed of.
All there is to do now is wait! In the meantime, what are some more places you would add to this list?
