Looking for great, authentic Mexican food at an affordable price during your cross-Iowa road trip? You may not think there would be an excellent, authentic, friendly, and delightful restaurant in this small Iowa town but there is. It’s a refreshing change from fast food and burger joints.
Los Altos is located at 223 S Division St., Stuart.
The town of Stuart has about 1,700 residents and is located just west of Des Moines off of I-80. The town motto is, "Welcome to Stuart,
Home to 1700 Good Eggs, and a Few Stinkers."
This wonderful Mexican restaurant is clean, well lit, and the ambiance is friendly and happy.
You'll enjoy attentive service, familiar food, and an energetic vibe. The carafe of salsa and accompanying chips will keep you satisfied until the food arrives. Visitors love the cilantro-laced salsa.

The décor inside is up-to-date and cute. A mural artist personalized the space with Stuart-specific themes. This place is clearly a local favorite. If you want to commit to a pitcher of margaritas, reviews indicate that they are very good.
Los Altos is always busy at dinnertime, but the service is still lightning-fast. There are vegetarian options here, and the rice and beans are more than an after thought. Try the queso for an extra-special treat.
Los Altos has been in Stuart for several years and the food and service are consistently great. When blessed with good Iowa weather, enjoy the outdoor patio. This place is a great addition to the local community.
If you are looking for a nice sit down family restaurant, you'll be pleased. Even picky eaters will love the range of choices, which happen to include burgers and fries!
Daily drink and food specials make this a regular stop for many locals.
If you over-indulge, you can walk it off at the city park, conveniently located across the street.
This review from Yelp seems to sum up the Los Altos experience in Stuart. “We stopped at Los Altos in Stuart based on yelp reviews and we were not misled. The food was delicious and freshly made. Service was attentive. It was also quick which is important when driving cross country.”
