Whether you’re a lifelong resident of Iowa or simply passing through for the weekend, there’s an accommodation in Mason City that could impress just about anyone. The Historic Park Inn, aside from being the last standing hotel designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, offers a chance to step back in time. Here’s more on this fascinating hotel that just might be the most unique in all of Iowa:
The iconic Historic Park Inn can be found at 7 W State Street, Mason City, IA 50401.
The hotel dates back to 1910, when it was built along with the adjacent City National Bank by the famous architect. Wright began drawing illustrations for the soon-to-be hotel in December of 1908, and construction began a little over a year later. While he supervised the initial stages of the building, the rest was overseen by William Drummond.

Due to competition in the hotel industry as well as the closing of City National Bank, the Park Inn gradually declined in business until it was closed in 1972.
Fortunately, thanks to several grants, a complete renovation of the hotel was possible. The Park Inn was open for business again by 2011 and has since been attracting visitors from everywhere.
