It may seem a bit silly to try to talk about Iowa’s highest road. After all, this is a state without mountains and with the exception of the beautiful Loess Hills area and the north eastern section of our state, “flat” is a word people use often to describe our terrain.

Technically, every state has its own highest point. Ours is celebrated in the best possible way.

Iowa's highest road may not have mountain views or cause anxiety in those with a fear of heights, but it does lead to an amazing little park that you'll want to visit.

The road is SR 60. This north-south state highway starts near Le Mars at the freeway interchange with U.S. Route 75. It reaches up to the Iowa-Minnesota border.
Just 4.5 miles north of the small town of Sibley and 3.5 miles south of the Iowa-Minnesota border, this silo sits near the park that marks the highest point in the state.

The land, donated to the county by the Sterler family, was once a family farm. The Sterlers worked the land for many years.
They donated this part of their family property to Osceola county on the condition that it would be converted to a public park.

The five tall posts have signs pointing toward each state's highest point. Each sign also notes the distance you'd have to travel to get there.
This stone marker and mosaic marks the exact highest point in Iowa. If you stood there, you'd technically be the tallest person in the state.
