If you’re looking for a place to get away and experience Iowa’s Great Lakes, it’s hard to top Gull Point State Park. Plan a visit to the shores of West Okoboji Lake and you’ll be sure to enjoy a weekend full of fun camping, fishing, boating, hiking, and history.
Iowa's Gull Point State Park is tucked away in the Iowa Great Lakes region.
This beautiful oasis is located on West Okoboji Lake, all the way across from the famous Arnold's Park.
Gull Point was established in 1933 and built by the Civilian Conservation Corps.
The CCC worked on the park for three years, creating architecture that blends in with the park's natural beauty, and enhances the experience rather than distracting park goers.
Today, you'll find the original CCC buildings still standing, hidden between the trees and preserved by the National Register of Historic Places.
The famous swing by the water is named after longtime Great Lakes resident Sheryl Christiansen-Martyr, who passed away in 2001.
The swing is one of the most popular places in the park for a family vacation photo.
Spend some time out on the water with a boat, kayak or canoe. You can rent one from the local marina or bring your own along.
Anglers flock to the shores to catch walleye, smallmouth and white bass, perch, northern pike, bluegills, bullheads, and more.
The park's interpretive nature trail is the perfect place to encounter some Iowa wildlife.
Travel for 1.3 miles and see natural wonders, songbirds, deer, and more. In the winter, enjoy a cross country ski trail that's well maintained.
Gull Point State Park is a wonderful place for a family camping adventure, day trip in nature, or lakeside beach day.
You'll find year-round entertainment in Iowa's Great Lakes region, and Gull Point is the centerpiece of it all.
Plan a getaway to West Okoboji this year with friends or family and you'll enjoy the peace and quiet of the Great Lakes from Gull Point.
