When you live in a state as big as Iowa, chances are you drive thousands of miles every year. It’s just part of life here in the Midwest – unless you’re in town, nothing’s close by! Fortunately, all those miles give you time to discover hidden gems, like Flatted Fifths Blues & BBQ in Bellevue. In fact, you’ve probably driven past this spot a dozen times without knowing that it’s even a restaurant, let alone one that will blow your tastebuds out of the water.
If you're driving south in Bellevue on Riverview Drive, you'll pass by an abandoned mill, set back off the side of the highway. From a drive-by glance, it's hard to tell that some of the best food in Iowa is behind these red walls.
This off the beaten path mill-turned-restaurant is so much more than a music venue and a great bar, though. They really know how to make mouthwatering BBQ.
Along with all their BBQ options, the kitchen offers a Cajun and Creole side of the menu, with New Orleans inspired dishes like Etouffee, Jambalaya and Gumbo.
If you love slow smoked, intensely flavored BBQ or dishes from the Bayou, you can't go wrong with anything on the menu at Flatted Fifths. Just be sure not to drive right by!
Flatted Fifths Blues & BBQ at Potter’s Mill is open Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. You can find their live music schedule right here.
