For those who enjoy peaceful, laid-back hikes, Iowa might be one of the best spots around. We generally don’t have the big, challenging hikes that other states do, so as long as you’re in good shape and have the supplies, it’s easy to spend the day hiking on a relaxing trail without having to worry too much about tricky terrain. One of the best spots for a long hike in Iowa is located in under-the-radar Pleasant Creek State Recreation Area, located in rural central Iowa northwest of Cedar Rapids. That’s where you’ll find the Pleasant Creek Lake Trail, an 8.3-mile loop trail around the park’s stunning lake. It’s considered a moderately challenging route, full of gorgeous scenery, and it’s the perfect hike for a day-long adventure including a picnic and some sightseeing.
