I love a good amusement park, and it’s great to see the way they’re constantly trying to one-up each other with bigger and better rides. But there’s something about those old vintage parks that continues to stand out year after year. That’s where you find truly one-of-a-kind rides that still manage to surprise – and Iowa has a great one at Adventureland in Altoona. First opened in 1996, The Underground is definitely the most unique roller coaster in Iowa – in fact, it’s the only ride of its kind in the world! This fully indoor, immersive, mine-themed wooden roller coaster combines thrills with visual effects – at least it did until it closed for refurbishment. But fear not, this thrilling descent into the depths is scheduled to reopen for the Adventureland 2024 season with new flourishes but the same great one-of-a-kind ride.
