Hiking through Iowa is a great way to get some fresh air, take in the sights, and truly appreciate the nature and wildlife you can find in your own backyard. One of the most popular trails in Iowa, the Clive Greenbelt Trail, is known for showing off unprecedented beauty in an otherwise urban area, just outside of West Des Moines. Have you hiked it yet?
The Clive Greenbelt Trail is the crown jewel of Clive, a West Des Moines suburb that considers itself "distinct by nature" - and the town motto is certainly accurate.
You'll find thousands of wildflowers lining your path, and you can make this as long of an adventure as you want. It's an easy out-and-back trail, but you can make it a longer point-to-point by continuing on one of many side trails that connect to make it an endless adventure.
Whether you head to the Clive Greenbelt Trail for running, hiking, or biking, you'll find an adventure here that's great for clearing your head and getting some fresh air.
The Trail is open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, and you can find out more on the Travel Iowa website here.
For a more remote adventure, or if you’re looking for a hiking trip in the western part of Iowa, read about The Chute And Heritage Trail in the Loess Hills.
