Iowa boasts a healthy population of small towns. They’re scattered across the state, and they’re really what makes Iowa unique. Each community has an atmosphere that sets it apart from all of the others, and today we’ll be looking at the beautiful town of Pella, Iowa.
Pella is a perfectly sized town, with only 10,352 people reportedly living there as of the 2010 census. It is located in Marion County in southern Iowa.
It was founded in 1847 by a group of 800 Dutch immigrants. The town is rich with Dutch culture to this day, made obvious by the large windmill pictured here.

The Vermeer Mill is the largest Dutch windmill in Iowa, and was constructed in Holland and shipped to the US. It actually is capable of milling wheat into flour.

Every year, the town comes alive during the Tulip Time Festival in May. The celebration lasts for days, and it's a beauty for the eye to behold.
The tulips are the town's pride and joy at this time of year, and it isn't hard to imagine why. The vivid colors of the flowers can blow visitors away.
