Now that summer’s in full swing, we hope that you’re getting out in nature and doing some hiking. Here’s a little hike you can take that’s close to Des Moines…but you’ll feel like you’re in the middle of the wilderness.
Brown's Woods is a little nature preserve in West Des Moines.
You can explore the area on its trail system. The Preparation Loop and Gateway Trails are just a half mile each; incorporate all four trails for a total of 4.4 miles.
The area is lush and green. Brown's Woods is just a few miles from the International Airport, but you'll feel as though you're far into the wilderness here. It's generally quiet, and not too crowded.
Bring your pup along! Dogs are allowed on the trail, as long as they're kept on leash. Please clean up after them to keep the area nice for future hikers.
