Iowans really know their beef! We’re a huge producer of steaks and chops, and there are hundreds of little steakhouses that turn out delicious meals every single night. One place in particular has earned a reputation for serving the biggest steaks in Iowa, so if you’re hungry, you’ll want to make the trek.
In the heart of Altoona, you'll find The Big Steer Steakhouse and Lounge.
This humble little steakhouse is famous for serving gigantic steaks - from prime rib to porterhouse, nearly everything is bigger than the plate it's served on.
Nothing here is more popular than their prime rib. With several size options available, this perfectly seasoned steak might be the best prime rib in Iowa.
The Big Steer is located at 1715 Adventureland Dr., Altoona, IA 50009. They’re open from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Fridays. Saturday hours are from 4 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., and you can join them for dinner from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Sundays.
