Iowa’s Driftless area is known for its unique topography, and way up in the northeastern corner of the state, you’ll find a park that shows off the region and the Mississippi River from atop a 450-foot bluff. Head to Lansing to see the best views in Iowa from atop Mount Hosmer.
The tiny town of Lansing is known for its famous Black Hawk Bridge, and the nearby Mount Hosmer Lookout that showcases some of the best views in Iowa.
Bring your own binoculars or use the scopes up top to watch traffic on the bridge, spot birds, and spy on boats traveling up and down the mighty Mississippi River.
You'll learn about the river and how it supports an entire ecosystem by reading the interpretive signs at the top. Oh, by the way, you can drive right to the summit - no hiking required! The park offers more than 100 acres where you can walk around and explore.
After you take in the beautiful views from Mount Hosmer Park, head south to find Yellow River State Forest. It’s A Big Secluded Treasure where you’ll find more of the best views in Iowa along miles and miles of scenic and well-maintained hiking trails.
