Iowa is famous for its loose meat sandwiches. Some people call them maid-rites, some people call them taverns, and some even call them scrambled hamburgers, but at one place in Ottumwa, they’re Canteens. And at this tiny hole in the wall, you’ll find the best canteens in the world.
Dusty Roads opened Canteen Lunch in 1927, and quickly got famous for serving tasty tavern sandwiches. The restaurant moved to the Alley in 1936.
A meal at Canteen Lunch in the Alley is something you won't soon forget. From the first bite of your tavern sandwich to the last bite of your pie, you'll be in heaven.
