Iowa is the leading pork producing state in the country, so when we talk about BBQ, we’re truly the country’s experts. Sure, the Carolinas might have the sauces, and Missouri has figured out perfect seasoning blends, but you know what makes BBQ stand out? The meat! Come try the best ribs in Iowa and see what you’ve been missing out on.
Moo's BBQ is a small smokehouse in Newton, Iowa that recently gained national attention thanks to Food Network naming their ribs the best in the whole state.
Newton is the seat of Jasper County, and located just a short drive from Des Moines. No matter where you hail from, it's worth the drive to pick out a meal from their classic smokehouse menu.
Try a pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw and a side of homemade baked beans if you're looking for delicious, traditional BBQ fare. Their pulled pork was awarded best in the state by the Iowa Pork Producers in 2018.
The ribs are the most popular menu item here - and the one that sells out regularly. These big, meaty St. Louis-style ribs are smoked with cherry and hickory wood after being rubbed down with a secret blend of spices.
Each rack is smoked for at least four hours, and often longer. The result? The meat just falls right off the bones! It's not just Food Network that noticed - ask around, and locals will confirm these are the best ribs in Iowa.
Along with pork, ribs, brisket, sausage and chicken, you'll find outrageously tasty sides made fresh here. You've got to try their burnt ends and bacon mac and cheese!
Visit Moo’s BBQ on the web, here, to see their current hours or place a catering order. You’ll become a family favorite if you start bringing Moo’s to the holidays!
