Iowa is such a beautiful state – from the cliffs of the driftless region to the rolling Loess Hills, there’s magic just about everywhere you look. One particular state park is a great place to see Iowa’s ecosystem. With views, streams, a cave, a beach, and a natural spring – one Backbone State Park hike will show you what’s been hiding in plain sight all along.
Backbone State Park is Iowa's oldest park, dating back to 1919! It was the first place that Iowans could really go to relax in an organized park environment.
Today, people flock to this beautiful natural oasis for exciting hiking, fishing, swimming and exploring. There is so much to do here, you'll never be bored.
Finally, after a long day of hiking, head down to the historic Boat House and lay out on the beach. Enjoy some swimming and sunbathing before heading back home.
