With warmer weather finally starting to arrive in the Hawkeye State, now is the perfect time to starting planning out which adventures you want to take before the year’s over. Full of breathtaking natural wonders and unforgettable outdoor attractions, every Iowan should complete this epic adventure bucket list that we’ve put together.
1. Pikes Peak State Park - McGregor
A place that's so magical you'll often feel like you've somehow stepped into a real life version of Narnia, Pikes Peak State Park is an absolute gem. The park is one of Iowa's most photographed places and gives you an unforgettable view of the Mississippi River that you'll never want to take your eyes off of. Throughout the park, you can find gorgeous well-kept trails that will lead you to serene places, a wonderful part of our state that's worth exploring.

2. Sky Tours Zipline - Dubuque
An adventure that's simply impossible to forget, taking a trip to Sky Tours in Dubuque is something you won't regret crossing off of your 2017 bucket list. Sending you through the air above Union Park, visitors will be surrounded by greenery and breathtaking views.

3. Ledges State Park - Madrid
One of the most visited parks in Iowa, Ledges State Park is a favorite for good reason. Not only does the park feature serene trails and a charming little stone bridge, it also attracts plenty of visitors with its unique sandstone gorge. A great place to visit during our warmer months when you can take advantage of the great camping spots, staying overnight in the park allows you to explore all there is to see!

4. Devonian Fossil Gorge - Iowa City
Ready to take an adventure that will send you back in time? Visit Iowa's Devonian Fossil Gorge and you'll be able to walk on a 375 million year old ocean floor. The extraordinary natural wonder was only discovered in the early 1990's after a series of floods. Visitors can stop at the Entry Plaza to learn about the history of this geological wonder before they go exploring, something that's worth your while!

5. Maquoketa Caves State Park - Maquoketa
One of our favorite places to explore, make the trip out to Jackson County and you'll find an over 300-acre park that's perfect for any true explorer. With trails leading you through caverns and gorgeous rock formations, you won't find any other place like this in Iowa.

6. Loess Hills - Hitchcock Nature Center
Spanning across seven Iowa counties, Loess Hills as a whole is the most beautiful and remote destination in our state. Stretching along the Missouri River for over 200 miles, explorers can take adventures to specific areas like the Hitchcock Nature Center in Honey Creek to see what this place is all about.

7. Backbone State Park - Dundee
Another state park in Iowa that you won't want to miss out on seeing, Backbone State Park covers over 2,000 acres of beautiful secluded land. Right within Delaware County, the park is a popular place to go if you're looking to catch a glimpse of our wildlife and emerge yourself in nature. From hiking trails and cabins to beaches and rocky staircases, Backbone will completely take you away from it all.

8. Wabash Trace Nature Trail
Covering over 60-miles and leading you down near our state border, this rail trail is one of the most beautiful trail's you'll ever explore in the Hawkeye State. A popular place to go if you're looking to take an adventure that you can experience on a set of wheels, you'll frequently see bike riders exploring the Wabash Trace trail. 9. Dunnings Spring Park - Decorah
