Everyone needs a vacation once in a while, but that doesn’t mean you have to spend a ton of money – or even leave the state. There are still plenty of fun, unique destinations to see right here in Iowa – including this amazing 2-day getaway to the Iowa Great Lakes! The Iowa Great Lakes region, located in northwestern Iowa, offers all the best parts of a tropical vacation including beachside resorts and tiki bars – at an Iowa price.
The first day of your Iowa staycation will be spent in Arnold's Park. Your first step is to check in at your beachside resort - the Fillenwarth Resort.
The next step is to grab your swimsuit and your traveling companions and hit the lake. Boating, swimming, jet skiing, water skiing, or just lounging on the beach and soaking up the sun - you can't go wrong.
As soon as the sun starts to sink, it's the perfect time to catch your thrills at Arnolds Park Amusement Park. When you've had your thrills for the day, head back to the resort and power up for tomorrow's fun.
Day two of your Iowa staycation will be spent in Okoboji. Start your day off with a delicious breakfast at one of the local eateries - O’farrell Sisters is a great place to try.
After a bite to eat, head over to the Iowa Great Lakes Maritime Museum to check out all the old artifacts and lore of the Iowa Great Lakes region - including an old ship pulled from the depths of West Okoboji Lake.
After that, check in at Bridges Bay Resort, where you can splash around at the indoor Boji Splash Waterpark, or splash around outside in East Okoboji Lake.
When you're ready for your next meal, check out Ranch Okoboji where you can grab a bite to eat, as well as a delicious margarita, before spending the rest of the evening playing mini golf, horse shoes, cornhole, squirt gun battles and much more.
End your perfect Iowa staycation by watching the sun set over the beautiful East Okoboji Lake, and reminisce about the memories you made over the last two days.
