11 Main Streets In Iowa That Are Pure Magic During Christmastime

The Christmas Parade in Oskaloosa was voted the number one holiday event in the state by Main Street, Iowa, so you know it’s pure magic. The parade takes place annually on Thursday of the week following Thanksgiving, so while you may miss it this year, make sure to mark your calendar for next year.

Fairfield offers plenty of Christmas magic, with a decked out town square, Kandy Kane House and amazing Christmas lights. Santa will be at the Kandy Kane House on December 2nd, there’s a Scenic Rivers Wine Trail Annual Wine Tour Open House on December 2nd through the 5th and more. The charming and historic Villages of Van Buren are pure magic at Christmas time. From their Festival of Trees, to "Light Up First Street," the villages have plenty going on. The Lighted Christmas Parade and Soup Supper in Cantril is a must, and it takes place at the fire station on December 17th at 6:00pm. 104 W 3rd St.

Wyoming has an incredible 4-block canopy of Christmas lights on the town's Main Street that will take your breath away. There are also 40 lit Christmas trees to add to the magical effect. Don’t miss their Christmas City celebration on Sunday, December 4th from 4pm to 8pm. The celebration takes place on Main Street and includes a soup supper, Christmas tree walk, horse and wagon rides and much more.

While Des Moines doesn’t have the typical small town Main Street, it is a magical place to be during Christmas. With all of the light displays adorning the streets, as well as multiple activities, like Christmas tree lightings, festival of trees, ice-skating, shopping and more, you definitely won’t be bored.

LeClaire is a lovely little town with festive lights and a fun Christmas celebration called Christmas in LeClaire. With Christmas lights decorating the Main Street, lots of charming shops and restaurants and an antique mall completely decked out with lights, you’ll find plenty of holiday magic. Mount Vernon also hosts an annual Magical Night event on Dec. 1st, from 5 to 8 pm at several locations throughout Mount Vernon.

Anamosa is a magical place to be during Christmas time, with lots of holiday fun. Make sure to check out the Annual Christmas Tree Walk & Craft Show on December 9th, 10th and 11th. There’s also an annual Christmas event called Holiday Magic on Main, an event that takes place downtown to kick off the holiday season.
