We Iowans love our great state, and we’re fiercely proud of it. But sometimes, there are certain things that we will NEVER admit out loud, even to another Iowan – here are 10 of those things:
1. "Okay, there actually are a ton of cornfields in Iowa..."
Sometimes it seems like they will never end... But that doesn't mean that our state is only cornfields, so don't even go there, buddy!
2. "I've never seen Field of Dreams."
GASP. As much as I wish Iowan schools would have a mandatory showing of this movie every year, that is not likely to happen. And so there remain people here in Iowa who haven't seen Field of Dreams. If you're one of those people, it's probably best to keep this to yourself - and watch the movie already, before we take your Iowa card away!
3. "I've never been to the Iowa State Fair."
Uh... Excuse me, what did you just say? I don't think I heard you correctly... Did you say you have never been to the Iowa State Fair? I don't know how this is possible, but there are still people in Iowa who have never been to the state fair. Sigh.
4. "I've actually never been to an Iowa-Iowa State game."
What are you talking about? Yes you have - you have to have been to one... right? Even if you don't like sports, you've been to an Iowa-Iowa State game. And if you haven't.... well, it's best to just not bring that up.
5. "I've never eaten at a Maid Rite."
Go. Just go. I can't even bear to look at you right now.
6. "I don't really like taco pizza."
............. I'm going to pretend like you didn't just say that.................
7. "I don't really know the difference between field corn and sweet corn."
Every Iowan knows that field corn isn't for eating.... right? right?! Apparently not...
8. "I know it's not actually pronounced crick..."
9. "...Or warsh."
But it's still crick and warsh.
10. "It actually makes more sense to call it soda."
If you think about it, it does sound a little weird to drink a "pop." But no matter how hard you fight us, Iowa will always be a proud pop state.
