Rachel lives in eastern Iowa. She was born in Wisconsin, but only lived there for a few weeks before her parents realized how much better Iowa was and moved. She believes in serial commas, kindness, and good food.
Home Sweet Home! Iowa is familiar territory for many of us, and here are just 10 of the legitimate and telltale signs that you grew up right here in this glorious Midwestern state.
1. Your high school had an annual Tractor Day. The FFA kids drove their farm tractors into town and parked them in the school parking lot. It kind of made sense, and a lot of kids really looked forward to it.
5. You've met a few presidential candidates, and so have your neighbors. It's not even that big of a deal, anymore. Iowans are used to rubbing elbows with presidential hopefuls.
6. You understand that if you are stuck in traffic, it's because of farm machinery or road construction. If it's fall or spring, farm machinery is likely to blame. If there isn't snow on the ground, it's road construction season.
7. You really looked forward to the annual family trip to the pumpkin farm. Corn mazes, hay rack rides, visiting the farm animals, and the best part; picking your own pumpkin, were all integral parts of a typical Iowa autumn season.
9. You know the correct answer to the question, "Is This Heaven?" You can even find the baseball field where the question was famously asked in "Field of Dreams."
