Located in O'Brien County, Sheldon is a haven for retirees. With great access to doctors, recreation or fitness facilities, and a low monthly housing cost, it's no surprise that Sheldon was ranked the number one spot to retire in Iowa.
Cherokee was ranked the second best place to retire in Iowa due to the city's great access to doctors and cheap monthly housing costs. But, the city scored a little lower of a score for safety.
Located in Floyd County, Charles City is the third best place to retire in Iowa. Charles City offers a safe city, with cheap housing. The access to doctors and recreation/fitness facilities is pretty good as well.
This charming small town of around 5,000 people makes a great place to retire. The city is very safe, and there is great access to golf and recreation/fitness opportunities, plus cheap monthly housing costs.
Located in Kossuth County, just a few miles from the beautiful Ambrose A. Call State Park is Algona, the fifth best place in Iowa to retire. Algona offers retirees great access to golf and other fitness/recreational opportunities, as well as a very safe city with cheap housing.
Carroll is a picturesque town of around 10,000 nestled along the Middle Raccoon River. Carroll is a great place to retire at due to the excellent safety grade of the city, and the access to doctors.
Located in central Iowa along the bluffs of the Iowa River, Iowa Falls is another great place for people looking to retire. Iowa Falls made the list because of city's excellent safety ratings, and for the access to doctors and golf opportunities.
Located in northeast Iowa, Decorah is a cultural hub with endless things to explore. Decorah makes a great place to retire because it is one of the safest cities in Iowa, which also offers plenty of recreation/fitness/golf opportunities.
Located in Madison County, Winterset is the ninth best place in the state to retire. The monthly housing cost is a bit higher than some of the others on this list (but still very low), and the city offers ample recreation/fitness/golf opportunities.
Located in Appanoose County, Centerville has a lower safety rating than some of the other cities on the list, but the city has good access to doctors and recreation opportunities, as well as a low monthly housing cost.
